Issues of licensing for rproxy/librsync On the whole we'd like people to be able to put this into nonfree software, and also for it to be accepted into the standard Apache and Squid distributions. After talking to a few people I think it might be most appropriate for librsync to be released under the GNU Lesser GPL, and for rproxy itself to be released under the GNU GPL. Until we resolve this, we should make sure we don't use any software in them that would tend to restrict the licensing options. Most of the things we'd be interested in using -- glib in particular -- are LGPL'd already, so they're not such a problem. (Is Apache happy to ship with LGPL'd software?) In this case having a good reference implementation of an open standard is probably more important than a virus to help open software, or at least I hope so. In fact, it seems there are problems even with the LGPL going into some code. Roy Fielding recommended the MPL. Another alternative is the BSD license, with or without licensing clauses. Another again is to assign the copyright to the Apache Software Foundation and put it under their license.
